Lily Allen 'Not Fair' Free Music Video

Bursting on to our radios and screens in 2006 Lily Allen hit the top ten with a vengeance with her fresh faced cheeky anthem 'Smile'. 'Smile' instantly became a summer hit and a sign of things to come, representing Lily's 'Mockney' upbeat pop style and raw and powerful lyrics to a tee, as well as showing off Lily's personal style.

Lily Allen was born in 1985 to actor and musician Keith Allen and film producer Alison Owen. During her childhood she was incredibly rebellious, attending over 14 schools because of her reputation for smoking, drinking and being badly behaved. Having grown up with a variety of famous godparents and influences, Lily left the education system and went to Ibiza at the age of 15 where she ended up working at various bars and music shops while dealing ecstasy to support herself. She worked there for a time until she met her first manager, George Lamb, who sent her home to sign to a UK label and pursue her music dreams.

Upon arrival in the UK, Allen was at first unsuccessful with labels, but then was signed by Regal Records who gave her £25,000 to make her first record. However, the label were more focused on Allen's label mates Gorillaz and Coldplay and she was largely unknown even within the company. Following little support from Regal, Allen took to the internet and set up her own music MySpace page where listeners and viewers could check her music out for free. By posting mix tapes and demos online she became increasingly popular and gained interest from producers Mark Ronson and Greg Kurstin, completing her debut album in only two weeks. By the time 'Smile' hit the top spot, her songs had been downloaded over 19 million times from Allen's MySpace page.

Following the monumental success of her first album 'Alright, Still' which sold 960,000 copies in the UK and 520,000 copies in the USA, Allen released her second album 'It's Not Me, It's You' in February 2009 to critical acclaim and wide success. It has been praised for capturing the Zeitgeist as it discusses problems with celebrity culture, the actions of the BNP, relationship issues and world visions. Her second album has elements of the first, its retro feel, cheeky lyrics and 'Mockney' style, but the overall sound and feel of the album has definitely matured and shows off Allen's confidence with her singing abilities and song topics.

'The Fear' discusses Allen's fear that the world will become a superficial and sterile place where everyone has the same aspirations. It comments on the world of celebrity today. Because of its catchy hook and great sound, the song hit number 1, staying there for 4 weeks early this year. Allen's second single from the album is called 'Not Fair' and is an incredibly humorous song, dealing with the issues of having an unsatisfactory lazy lover. In the video, Lily is seen playing to the song's country and western undertones by performing on a 1970s country music program 'Porter Wagoner Show'. The song is incredibly funny and showcases Allen's ability to capture intimate aspects of real life in her individual cheeky way.
