Foo Fighters ‘Walk’
Free Music Video Download

The new Foo Fighters video 'Walk', from the album 'Wasting Light', is a fantastic semi recapitulation of 'Falling Down', the 1993 film in which Michael Douglas plays the part of a pent up angry white guy who is pushed to his eventual death by what he perceives to be society's biggest issues. Immigration, avariciousness, criminality and politics force him to go on a heated rampage which results in his demise. The new 'Walk' video echoes this prototypical imagery of 'angry white man' and the sentiments of the film in a tongue in cheek style.

‘The video is a strange, humorous realisation of a film that never really was all that funny to begin with. Front man, Dave Grohl, who appears to be a direct clone of Bill Foster, opens the video. Stuck in traffic, the scene unfolds into chaos and mayhem as a child flicks the bird at him and bumper stickers all around him speak hilarious messages such as 'Punk is dead' and 'Thank You, President Bush'. The scene eventually closes when, in a Foster-esque fit of rage, Grohl loses it and leaves his car on the freeway resorting to walking across Los Angeles with guitar case in hand.

Grohl is eventually pushed further and further, spiralling deeper and deeper into a pit of anger. His disgust and anger at society heightens, his iPhone runs out of charge, the owner of a convenience store will not give him change to use a payphone, which he can't find anyway. These are all echoes of 'Falling Down' except our front man's actions are purely for comedy value and not for action's sake. He doesn't stab a racist or wreck a store but he does have a martial arts fight with his band mates Taylor Hawkins and Chris Shiflett and he even drives a golf buggy into a lake. Pure comedy. Watch the free music video below to see Grohl's insightful characterisation in action.

Grohl doesn't meet his end in the same way as Foster. In place of the dramatic showdown at Venice Fishing Pier, Grohl is tazed at a Foo Fighters' practice session where the band is ripping through the rest of 'Walk'. The police come running in and get Grohl and the band pose for pictures with the officers. This video really has seen some effort and time well spent.

The video is quirky and incredibly funny in parts. Those who have never seen the film 'Falling Down' will still find the video weird and interesting but it's very difficult, having seen the film, not to view it in this light. It is a clear parody of the film's storyline yet slightly tongue in cheek and very humorous. The Foo Fighters have done it yet again: another weird and wacky video that really stands out from the crowd as being inventive and intuitive.
