Dizzee Rascal ‘Bonkers’ Free Music Video

Dizzee Rascal, real name Dylan Mills, is one of the UK's leading artists and works in his native London as an MC, producer and songwriter. Since his début in 2003, Dizzee Rascal has become renowned as the master of mixing garage MCing, rap, UK grime and ragga as he combines them all in a totally unique way. As an eclectic artist who experiments with many different genres and collaborations, Dizzee Rascal has become incredibly popular with all kinds of fans.

Dizzee's debut in 2003 took years of hard work and judgement from faithful mentors. Having shown an interest in music at school he was encouraged by a teacher and his single mother saved up money so he could have turntables. At only 16 he self-produced and wrote his first single ‘I Luv U’ which was all about the problems with teenage pregnancy. This début song earned him an award for promising MCing in 2002 and in June 2003 the song was reworked and released and became a top 30 single.

Dizzee's début solo album ‘Boy In Da Corner’ was released later that same year to universal critical acclaim and achieved top 40 status upon release, later climbing to number 23 in the charts. However the year's success was tainted by a fight in Aiya Napa in which he was stabbed six times. Following this incident, Dizzee Rascal focused even more on his music, releasing the chart topping hit ‘Fix Up Look Sharp’ as his second single and his collaboration with Basement Jaxx on ‘Lucky Star’ earned him a third hit.

His second album ‘Showtime’ was equally as innovative and eclectic and was also released to high critical acclaim in 2004. All of the singles from this album were well received by critics and fans alike, as were the song releases from his third album ‘Maths + English’ which was released in 2007. The third album was created largely in America, but critics and fans were happy to note that this had not commercialized or negatively influenced Dizzee's work as he stayed eclectic and true to his own sound.

Following ‘Maths + English’, Dizzee Rascal has had two number 1 hits with his collaboration with Calvin Harris ‘Dance Wiv Me’ and ‘Bonkers’ with Armand Van Helden. The latter sees Dizzee Rascal taking a new direction with his music as it has a poppy hook and a house music undertone which Dizzee usually avoids. Dizzee himself has said that he does not want to make as much grime music as ‘Boy In Da Corner’ contained but would rather create innovative catchy mainstream songs. Whilst some have seen this as selling out, others have praised the fact he is a constantly evolving artist.

Dizzee's upcoming album ‘Tongue N’ Cheek’ will therefore prove to be interesting as it will indicate the extent to which he will be making mainstream music. Collaborations with Calvin Harris, Chrome and some new producers highlight the diversity of the album, and as Rascal himself said working with such people helps him to challenge his ideas of music. Dizzee's album ‘Tongue N’ Cheek’ is scheduled for release on the 7th September.
