Green Day 'Know Your Enemy' Free Music Video

Since the early 1990s Green Day have proved themselves to be one of the biggest names in the punk rock industry. From the commercial success of their massive breakthrough album 'Dookie' and its top singles 'Longview' and 'Basket Case', Green Day have gone from strength to strength. Dookie sold a massive 15 million copies worldwide and placed them at the fore of American rock alongside fellow California punk bands The Offspring and Rancid, offering a hybrid of serious messages, lyrical melody and memorable riffs. The album became the soundtrack to an entire generation's upbringing and inspired young guitarists all over the globe. Green Day's three subsequent albums, 'Insomniac', 'Nimrod' and 'Warning' all reached the top 10 and produced lots of hit singles including 'Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)', 'Hitchin' a Ride', and 'Minority'. Although none were as successful as 'Dookie', they still achieved double platinum and gold statuses. In 2004 though, Green Day broke through again with their massively internationally successful hit album and title track 'American Idiot' and won over legions of fans in younger generations. The band's eighth studio album, '21st Century Breakdown' was released in early May to wide critical acclaim. Still with the original line up, Green Day has been going strong for almost twenty years, and are still paving the way for punk rock music and music videos today.

Green Day's massive success arguably stems both from the strong riffs, power chords and heavy quick drums and the incredibly powerful and relatable lyrics. 'Dookie' began their career with angsty lyrics and stories teenagers could relate to, whereas the recent albums have become more politicised with more anti-establishment messages that Bush generation fans could relate to. Their newest offering, '21st Century Breakdown' comes across as a mix of the two and still offers the trademark Green Day sound but with an ever maturing sound and vocalisation of contemporary issues.

The album is notably produced by Butch Vig, famous for his involvement with The Smashing Pumpkins' 'Siamese Dream' and Nirvana's 'Nevermind' and the new album certainly has elements of these influences in it. The first single from the new album is 'Know Your Enemy' and it is typical of the album and the Green Day sound. According to lead vocalist Billie Joe Armstrong, the song is a call to liberate yourself from media saturation. Although the lyrics aren't as explicit as 'American Idiot' the chorus is just as fist-pumping; it is a real sing-a-long anthem.

Free Music Video - Green Day 'Know Your Enemy'

Because of the nature of the song, the music video is performance-based, with Green Day performing in an enclosure being surveyed by searchlights and surrounded by barbed wire. With sleek production, punk rock fashion and bags of defiant guitar strums the video is both simple and epic. Towards the end, Green Day are back-dropped by a huge wall of fire, silhouetting them against it. Although nothing revolutionary, the video goes well with the song and is an awesome display of the band. It's no wonder that it is one of the most searched for music videos on free music video websites.

With this high energy single, album and music video, Green Day are definitely back, and with further singles to come and international live shows including dates at the O2 Arena in October, it seems their success can only grow.
